Remote area nursing FAQs
To start working in remote area nursing, you’ll need to be a registered nurse (RN) with a current AHPRA registration and full working rights.
While some remote nursing roles may require you to have additional certifications, these are usually related to the specific duties of the position rather than remote nursing itself.
Some of our remote area nursing jobs do call for experience working remotely and ideally related to Indigenous and Aboriginal health and culture. This experience ensures you’re well-prepared to step into the role and start delivering quality care in rural and remote communities from day one.
However, if you don’t have this experience, please do get in touch to discuss what opportunities are available for you.
At Sanctuary, we’ll guide and support you throughout your journey with us. Our expert recruiters will help you find a role that is right for your experience, skills and preferences, and we’ll make sure your onboarding experience is smooth and straightforward.
If you’re working in a contract role, we also provide a full concierge service. We’ll arrange your accommodation and travel, so that you can stay focused on providing great care.
We also offer free online education and continuous training, including modules on cultural awareness and competency, so that you can stay up-to-date and fully compliant with all relevant legislation.
Yes, our contract roles include accommodation. We understand how important it is to feel settled and supported when you're working away from home.
Details such as the location, type of housing and amenities do vary depending on the role and location, but we’ll always make sure that you have the information you need before accepting an assignment.
Remote nursing contracts usually last from around four to 12 weeks. At the end of an assignment, there may be the option to extend your stay, depending on the needs of the facility and your own availability.
Pay rates are determined by the Aged Care Award and Nurses Award, set by the Australian Government. Your specific pay scale will depend on your qualifications, experience, workplace and the type of job you take on, whether it is a contract or casual role.
