Roles and Responsibilities of a Personal Care Worker

A PCW (personal care worker) is a caregiver who works alongside registered nurses,
enrolled nurses and management to provide care and treatment to residents.
A PCW who works in a residential aged care home would be expected
to carry out the following:

  • Assist with ADLs (Activities of Daily Living)
  • Help the registered and enrolled nurses with clinical care
  • If medication competent, administer medications
  • Complete meal rounds and assist residents with eating and drinking
  • Providing emotional support to both residents and their families
  • Monitor behaviours of their residents and notice any changes in character

Our PCWs work around the clock, filling shifts in the AM, PM and at night. We have
