A home care support worker is responsible for supporting home care clients receiving a Home Care Package, assisting they remain independent and within their own homes for longer.

Examples of duties and responsibilities are:

  • Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) - including personal care, bathing, and eating
  • Offering to help with tasks around the house to maintain a clean and welcoming environment
  • Liaising with the clients friends and families and other healthcare workers to provide the best possible care
  • Educating the client with information they need to remain independent and safe

As a rule of thumb, you need a minimum of six-months Australian home care experience to work with Sanctuary Recruitment. Once you have reached this level, which equates to 910 hours, get in touch with our team for more information on working in home care.

To be a home care support worker, you would need a relevant qualification, such as a Certificate III in Individual Support. This will take around six months (full time) to complete and includes theory and practical assignments.
