Enrolled nursing FAQs

An enrolled nurse (EN) is responsible for providing patient and resident care under the direction of a registered nurse (RN). You provide care on a holistic level, tending to a person’s physical, emotional, and social needs. Enrolled nurses can work across a multitude of specialisms, using their transferable skills in a variety of environments. The duties and responsibilities of an enrolled nurse in aged care include: 

 

  • Administering medications
  • Wound care
  • Care planning and completing documentation
  • Monitoring vital observations and recording changes
  • Rehabilitation support
  • Infection control and following established protocols 

Those who work in enrolled nurse jobs will need to:

  • Gain the right qualification – in Australia, this is a Diploma of Nursing
  • Register with AHPRA and receive your AHPRA number to practice
  • Provide extra documents that pass security checks – mandatory documentation for those working in enrolled nursing jobs includes: a National Police Check/National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) Check, two clinical references, identity documents, Immunisation History, and First Aid Certificates.

With Sanctuary, you have the opportunity to work on a temporary/casual basis, filling shifts in for homes that require last minute staffing. You also have the option to travel the country on travel nursing assignments ranging from four week to three months.

Enrolled nurses are casual employees and receive an hourly rate of pay. Pay rates vary based on your experience and the nature of the work you carry out i.e. travel nursing roles may offer different rates to shift filling opportunities. Enrolled nurses with Sanctuary earn between $40 - $81 per hour.
