Duties of an enrolled nurse in aged care
An EN (enrolled nurse) is a qualified healthcare professional who has obtained a Diploma of Nursing. They work in the scope of their practice usually underneath a registered nurse and with assistant in nursing/personal care workers to provide care to residents.
Roles and responsibilities of an enrolled nurse include the following:
- Providing basic care such as assisting with hygiene and ADLS (activities of daily living)
- Administering medications
- Reporting and care planning, which will document a residents condition and ongoing medical support required
- Recording any changes to a resident and escalating this to the appropriate individual(s)
- Liaising with doctors and other external parties when necessary
- Providing support to resident families
