An aged care chef prepares nutritious, high-quality meals that support residents’ health and wellbeing, while catering to individual dietary needs. They ensure food safety and compliance standards are met and work closely with care teams to deliver consistent, enjoyable dining experiences. 

Key duties and responsibilities for aged care chefs are: 

  • Preparing nutritious, resident-focused meals
  • Catering for special dietary and texture-modified requirements
  • Following food safety, hygiene and aged care standards

Our aged care chef pay rates vary, with factors such as shift pattern, experience and location of work influencing what you can earn. Our casual rates of pay vary between $39 - $142 p/h.

  • Obtain a relevant qualification –this is usually a Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery.
  • Pass character and security checks – to work in an aged care chef job, you need to prove your identity and complete a background check. This includes providing a National Police Check/National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) Check, two references from people you reported to and identity documents. You will also need to show your Immunisation History to comply with state and organisation requirements.
